Mark Diestler is the senior associate director of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships. Mark helps direct staff who are responsible for the administration of federal, state, and institutional financial assistance. With a primary focus on compliance, he not only works closely with division staff but across the university, as many institutional actions have implications related to financial aid laws and regulations.

Prior to joining the University of Oregon, Mark was an institutional review specialist and eligibility analyst for Federal Student Aid in the US Department of Education. He has also served in different roles within financial aid offices at Regis University and Washington State University. He has been very active in state, regional, and national associations, where he has served in a wide range of roles including serving as president of his state association.

Mark earned his bachelor’s and master of business administration degrees from Washington State University. He returned to the Pacific Northwest in 2013 with his wife and daughter after living in the Denver Metro area for more than 10 years. He enjoys spending time with his family and watching sporting events, and he appreciates a good film.
