Eric Garcia, PhD, (he/him/his) is the assistant director and training director for Counseling Services within University Health Services (UHS). His work focuses on overseeing the training and provision of mental health services by the training staff within Counseling Services. Eric also works closely with the Counseling Services Leadership Team to coordinate the clinical system and other mental health services with UHS.
Over the past 10 years, Eric has provided mental health services, education and prevention outreach programs, as well as research related to the academic and career development of secondary and post-secondary students. Eric has had multiple roles within the University of Oregon, including being a member of the Dreamers Working Group and the Latinx Strategies Group. Eric also engages in research focused on undocumented and DACAmented student mental health, adolescent career development, and racial/ethnic minority college student development.
He received his PhD in counseling psychology with a specialization in Spanish-language psychological service and research, and an MS in counseling psychology and human services, from the UO. Eric completed his doctoral internship at UC Berkeley’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) during the 2017–2018 academic year. He returned to the UO in 2018 to become a senior staff psychologist and Latinx and undocumented student specialist, before becoming an assistant director within Counseling Services in 2021.
Eric is an avid fan of movies/TV shows, podcasts, and audiobooks. In his spare time, he likes to create glass artwork.
