Alex Matiash is the assistant director of residence life for resident services in University Housing. He is responsible for the operations and services provided for residential students and guests during their stay. These include operations of the housing service centers, management of the summer storage program, managing mid-year occupancy, and more. Alex began his work at the University of Oregon in October 2018.
Alex is originally from Niagara Falls, New York, but moved to Eugene in 2018. He serves on the directorate for the Mid-Level Community of Practice in ACPA, College Student Educators International. He is also an active member of the Northwest Association of College and University Housing Officers. Prior to working at the UO, Alex worked in residence life at Illinois State University, Eastern Washington University, and Oregon State University.
Alex earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing and psychology from SUNY Brockport and a master’s degree in higher education and student affairs from the University of Connecticut. He believes in implementing simple and effective solutions to ensure everyone can enjoy the parts of their lives that fulfill them the most. In his free time, you can find Alex playing volleyball competitively and hiking around the Pacific Northwest.
